The Aloe Ferox Company (Pty) Ltd was established in 2006 to house and exploit a unique piece of intellectual property created by the CSIR Biosciences division in relation to the extraction of aloesin from the Aloe Ferox plant. The company has since broadened its focus and seeks to develop or acquire technologies in the natural products space and to either on-license these technologies or to commercialise products derived there from.
Dr. Abrahams is a medical doctor by training and subsequently read for an MBA at the University of Oxford. He has co-founded and managed several start-up businesses in the healthcare, biotech and medical device space and currently focuses on the commercialistion of new technologies in the broader life sciences sector. Paul established AFC following the sale of Mbuyu Biotech, of which he was MD, in 2006.
Dr.Heather Sherwin – Director
Heather manages the day-to-day operations of Bioventures and represents the fund as a shareholder in AFC. Heather received her PhD from the University of Natal (Durban) in 1995 and has five years research and lecturing experience post PhD. After completing her MBA (University of Cape Town) Heather joined Gensec Bank as a Strategist in their Internationalisation Division where she was involved in international acquisitions. She was instrumental in setting up Bioventures and raising the Fund.
Vuyisile Phehane – Director
Vuyi is the Bioprocessing Portfolio Manager for BioPAD, an investor and shareholder in AFC.
